This is 45 credit programme offered to graduates of recognized universities who are in the education service or those with equivalent qualifications acceptable to the Senate of the OUSL. The duration of the programme is one academic year of 15 months

The main objective of this programme is to provide professional training to graduate teachers teaching in the school system.

Curriculum comprises of 12 courses including teaching practice, five of which are optional courses.

This programme is offered  in Sinhala, Tamil and English media.  For teaching practice (ESE 7311) students may select  one or  two subjects from the following.

3. Social Studies (History,Geography,Citizenship Education)
4. Science

6. Commerce

Evaluation

Evaluation includes,

  1. Continuous assessment by means of compulsory assignments
  2. Written examination at the end of the academic year.  Only  those who obtain eligibility from continuous assessment would be allowed to sit the Written examination .

 

Teaching Practice (ESE 2311)

Teaching Practice will be conducted and assessed in two stages.

Stage I 
Continuous Assessment:
Stage 1 covers a minimum period of 10 weeks undertaken by the candidates in their respective schools under the supervision of a Master Teacher and assisted by a school mentor.

Stage II
Final Examination:
This covers Teaching Practice undertaken by the candidates during 2 teaching periods in an assigned school under the supervision of a University Lecturer.
Final awards will be done in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University.
