The Faculty of Education of the Open University of Sri Lanka, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning  (COL)  has developed a Short Course to support  teachers who are teaching in Multi-grade classrooms in Sri Lankan schools.

The specific objectives of the course are:

  • To develop a better understanding of the challenges of multi-grade teaching,
  • To  develop   skills on the strategies appropriate for multi-grade teaching
  • To  develop a positive attitudes of  teachers  towards  multi-grade setting.

Medium of instruction

Sinhala/ Tamil

Instructional strategy

Seven activity based  Day Schools workshops will be conducted using seven modules and six interactive learning materials.

Duration of the course

06 months

Entry Qualifications:

Be currently working as a teacher.

Application :

Applications  will be called twice a year.

Certification:

The participants who successfully complete the prescribed course will be awarded a certificate of participation  by the Faculty of Education of the  Open University of Sri Lanka

  • Module 02     Effective Teaching and Learning in Multi-grade Classrooms
  • Module 03     Classroom Management and Organization
  • Module 04     Approaches to Teaching in Multi-grade classrooms
  • Module 05     Instructional Resources and Resource Management
  • Module 06     Assessment and Evaluation
  • Module 07    Planning a Programme of Instruction for Multi-grade Classes

 

Scheduled to  Commence in  March 2012.
