Objectives

The specific objectives of the course are :

• to update their knowledge on research designs, types of research, methods of data collection and strategies used for analysis of data;
• to get hands-on experience with regard to key areas of research methodology;
• to apply research skills to improve effectiveness of their day-to-day activities in educational institutions.

Personnel engaged in the field of Education, with a first degree in any discipline, who wish to develop their skills in conducting research.However, the course is more relevant to current Post Graduate students in Education.

Twelve (12) Activity based workshops (one day) will be used as the strategy for conducting this course. Workshops will be conducted only in weekends.

The duration of the course is limited to three months.

The participants who complete activity based assessment satisfactorily will be awarded a certificate of participation by the Faculty of Education of the OUSL.

Applications will be accepted through out the year. Depending on the number of applicants applied the number of cycles to be conducted in each year will be decided by the Faculty of Education. Only 25 students will be enrolled for one cycle.

Workshop 1 - Introduction to Research and Research Designs (Including one hour inauguration)

Workshop 5-  Action Research Proposal

Workshop 6 - How to write a Research Proposal

Workshop 7 - Developing Research Instruments

Workshop 8 - Analysis of Quantitative Data

Workshop 9 - Analysis of Qualitative Data

Workshop 10- SPSS Package

Workshop 11 - Data Triangulation, presentation and interpretation

Workshop 12- Writing a research report
