| Introduction |
|
The Department of Secondary and Tertiary Education offers its first Online Course, Teacher Educator as an Educational Technologist, developed in collaboration with the Distance Education Partnership Programme (DEPP) of the Distance Education Modernization Project (DEMP).
This is offered as a Stand –Alone Course. Stand –alone courses are offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka to enable those who wish to obtain more information & additional knowledge in a specific area to do so without having to register for a complete Programme of Study.
The Teacher Educator as an Educational Technologist is such a course which would enable any person engaged in the field of education such as teachers, principals ,educators, trainers etc., to develop competencies in using educational technology effectively.

| Learning Outcomes |
|
This course will enable students to:
- develop a concept map of a selected topic in a course you teach and prepare the instructional objectives, learning outcomes, and the learning experiences;
- select appropriate media and incorporate into the teaching and learning materials;
- design and develop a segment of the technology-enhanced teaching and learning package; and
- evaluate the technology-enhanced teaching and learning package and prepare an evaluation report.

| Admission Requirements |
|
An applicant should,
- possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline and
- be currently serving as a teacher/ principal/teacher educator, trainer in an approved educational institution
|

| Assessment Criteria |
- There will be no final examination
- The assessment of student shall be based on marks obtained for the compulsory assignments, according to the scheme and method of assessment as determined by the Faculty of Education.

| Course Design |
|
This course offers students with the opportunity to design, develop, implement, and evaluate appropriate educational technologies. As part of this exercise, students are required to develop a rationale for using ET, design the learning experience, select and use appropriate media to develop a section of the study materials, and evaluate its effectiveness.
Taking into account the needs of practicing personnel in the field of education, this course is very practice –oriented in its pedagogical design. A critical and unique feature of this course is its use of authentic learning scenarios to situate the study activities. In adopting this scenario-based approach, it seeks to make the learning of facts, principles and procedures a lot more meaningful.

| Learning Environment |
|
This course is developed as an online course. it is accessible by all registered students either at the NODES Access center (NAC) situated island wide or even from your home / office .
A limited number of contact sessions / workshop are organized to provide you with an opportunity to gain hands on experience .An additional recourse pack including multimedia is also provided. In addition, local study center support with library, audio –visual materials, computer and internet facilities are also provided.
