  • The Department of Special Needs Education offers Inclusive Education (ESP2111) as an optional course for PGDE programme of the Department of Secondary and Tertiary Education since 2005 in Sinhala, Tamil and English Media.
  •  The objective of the course is however, to develop general understanding about the children with special needs and teaching skills in inclusive classrooms and special schools.
  • This is a 3 credit course and students have to spend a minimum of 75 study hours. The progress of student is evaluated in continuous assessments and final examination. The Continuous assessment includes two assignments and marks of the best assignment are eligibility to sit the final examination, as well as the final award.

This course consists of 10 sessions such as:

  1. Foundation of Special Needs Education;
  2.  The Concept of Inclusive Education
  3. Strtegies for Inclusive Teaching
  4.  Intellectual Disability (Mental Retardation)
  5.  Visual Impairment
  6. Hearing Impairment;
  7. Speech and language Disorders;
  8. Learning disability;
  9. Barriers to learning;
  10. Gifted and Talented Learners.
  11. Strategies for Inclusive Teaching
