Laboratory Facilities
Download: Laboratory Guide Lines
The laboratory facilities in the Department consist of the Electrical Engineering Laboratory, the Computer Engineering Laboratory, the Advanced Electronics Laboratory and the Electronics Workshop at the Colombo Regional Centre, Electrical Engineering Laboratories at Kandy and Matara regional Centres and at the Batticaloa Study Centre. In addition to the above, the students have access to the Elementary Computer Laboratories at most of the Regional and Study Centres island-wide. Skills in basic wiring and other related fields are imparted in the Mechanical Engineering Workshops of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Laboratory work involving high voltages in the course ECX5238 Electrical machines and high voltage engineering are carried out at the High Voltage Laboratories of the University of Moratuwa by arrangement with them.
Electrical Engineering Laboratory
Electrical Engineering Laboratory is used mainly to teach the practical aspects of the basics of electrical engineering at lower level courses.
At present it conducts laboratory classes in the following courses:
ECX3210 Electro Techniques ECX3230 Electronics ECX3231 Electrical circuits and measurements ECX3232 Electrical power ECX3233 Communications and information technology (Part) ECX4233 Communications ECX4238 Electrical machines ECX5233 Radio and line communications
Computer Engineering Laboratory
The Local Area Network of the campus links the computers to the internet through the LEARN network. The Computer Engineering Laboratory is also equipped to teach certain hardware related courses. It is used for the laboratory classes in the following courses:
ECX3233 Communications and information technology (Part) ECX4235 Data structures and algorithms ECX4236 Microprocessor and interfacing ECX4237 Software engineering I ECX5235 Operating Systems ECX5236 Computer architecture ECX5237 Software engineering II ECX6236 Processor design Advanced Electronics Laboratory
This laboratory has facilities to conduct more advanced laboratory and project work in electronics, and is used to conduct laboratory work in the following courses:
ECX4230 Fault diagnosis in electronic circuits ECX6330 Electronic systems
Electronics workshop
The electronics workshop provides repair and maintenance services to all laboratories. It also provides opportunities for industrial training [ECW3290 Specific training (Electronics)] and laboratory work for part of ECX3233 Communications and information technology.
