This Programme is developed by the Department of Secondary and Tertiary Education with the aim of providing opportunities for those who have the Higher Diploma in Drama and Theatre of the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation to join the teaching profession. In the long run, those who complete the Diploma in Teaching (Aesthetic subjects) from the Colleges of Education can also be given the opportunity to enroll in the programme with minor modifications to the syllabus.
Bachelor of Education (Natural Sciences) Programme is a four academic year programme especially planned for Science/Mathematics teachers. The Faculty of Education conducts the level 5 and level 6 of the programme. The applicants should posses the following qualifications to register for levels 5 and 6 of the programme.
This programme is being conducted in all three media ( English, Sinhala and Tamil). The duration of the programme is one year.
The Department conducts two Post Graduate Programmes namely Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Education. Particulars regarding M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees are summarized below.
This short course, which will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English, will enable research students to develop an inquiry-based research-oriented frame of mind.

The Faculty of Education of the Open University of Sri Lanka, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) has developed a Short Course to support teachers who are teaching in Multi-grade classrooms in Sri Lankan schools.
Inclusive Education is about the education of all children in regular schools. The aim of inclusive education is to build an inclusive society which can nurture, develop and use the skills, talents and strengths of all its members and also increase its collective resources. Further, inclusive education emphasises the learners' rights and needs, and the importance of an education free from discrimination and segregation. Having considered the importance of inclusive classroom set up, the Ministry of Education accepted in principle, the proposal submitted by the unit of 'Education for All' to transform the regular classrooms into inclusive classrooms. Therefore, there will be a high demand for further education in the field of Inclusive Education (IE), particularly for short term courses. However, the available opportunities for learning inclusive education are very limited in the country. Therefore, the Department of Special Needs Education has decided to offer a short course on 'Inclusive Education'.
