Vice Chancellor

The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) is unique, being the only national Open Mode Distance Teaching University in Sri Lanka. Since its inception in 1980, OUSL has contributed substantially to meet the educational needs of the country by providing opportunities for the adult population to gain world class degrees and thereby ensuring the professional development of the workforce.

Due to the nature of the teaching methodology adopted by the University and the infrastructure it possesses, the OUSL serves a large student population spread throughout the country through the network of Regional and Study Centres located in every district of the country.

Graduates of the OUSL have found gainful employments and are serving in various positions both locally and internationally. Considerable number of our students have enrolled themselves in top universities across the globe for higher studies.

People around the world recognize that current economic development trends are not sustainable and that public awareness, education, and training are the keys to moving the society towards sustainability. As societies and economies develop, higher education providers face the challenge of ensuring that graduates are equipped to meet rapidly changing demands.

In order to meet these challenges, it is required to forge partnerships that promote intellectual and scientific co-operation based on common interest, mutual respect and credibility. At The Open University of Sri Lanka, we believe this is the way forward.

We would also like to keep close to our wider communities of interest within Sri Lanka and internationally. This will help us to ensure that our academic programmes are relevant to the need of our stake-holders and help us maintain excellence in our teaching, learning and research.

I invite you to explore our web pages to find out more about the University and if you are looking for a programme to study, I sincerely hope that you will be able to identify a study programme that is suitable to your prospective career.
