The development and use of speech and language is at the heart of young children’s learning. Children require good speech and language skills to make friends, to participate in group activities and to engage in the learning process. It is vitally important to ensure that we do everything that we can to help all children with Speech and Language Difficulties. In our classrooms, we often find children with Speech and Language Difficulties. So, the teachers should be capable of identifying such Speech and Language Difficulties and responding to such situations appropriately. Therefore, the Department of Special Needs Education (SNE) has decided to conduct a series of two-day workshops for teachers on “Supporting Children with Speech and Language Difficulties.” These workshops will be conducted by the Support Centre for Children and Adolescence in Risk Situation (SCCARS) of the Department of Special Needs Education, as a CERC project.

These workshops will enable the participants to: 

      • Acquire knowledge on how to identify children with Speech and Language Difficulties
      • Develop positive attitudes towards children with Speech and Language Difficulties
      • Acquire competencies to cater to the needs of children with Speech and Language Difficulties

Workshop 1

      • Introduction to Speech and Language Difficulties of children                                          
      • Prerequisites for Speech and Language Development
      • What are the Speech Difficulties of children?
      • What are the Language Difficulties of children?

Workshop 2

      • Strategies to support children with Speech and Language Difficulties in the classroom.
      • Strategies to support children with Speech Difficulties                                                            
      • Strategies to support children with Language Difficulties            

Assessment: There will be an assessment for participants at the end of each workshop.

Mode of delivary: Two activity-based face-to-face workshops will be conducted and each workshop will be of six- hour duration.

Duration: Two days. The participants will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.

Target group: Applicants who seek admission to this workshop must be teachers, teacher educators or any others who wish to enhance their skills in catering to children with Speech and Language Difficulties.
