The Department of Textile and Apparel Technology provides the students with a wealth of hands–on learning opportunities through relevant practical sessions for various courses. The department has 09 laboratories where students can get first-hand experience in the areas of textiles, clothing and fashion designing, and product development.
Spinning laboratory is designed for students to learn the cotton yarn manufacturing process using ring spun technology. This laboratory is equipped with spinning machines such as carding, draw frame, flyer frame, ring spinning frame and a winding machine.
Weaving laboratory is designed to provide the practical experiences in weaving technology. This laboratory has a power loom type weaving machine, pirn winding machine, jacquard loom and an electronic jacquard loom
Knitting laboratory is designed for students to obtain the practical knowledge in knitting technology. This laboratory consists of a modern circular socks-knitting machine and a computer-controlled modern flat bed knitting machine. The laboratory also facilitates the research work of students.
Chemical processing laboratory is designed to teach students about chemical processing of textiles. It has facilities to give a general understanding of the total textile finishing processes and to demonstrate the pre-treatment methods; demonstrate the quality properties imparted through them; provide understanding on the basic principles of textile coloration with different dye types and printing and also fastness testing. Facilities include winch machine, spin dryer, transfer printing, curing and setting chamber
Clothing laboratory is designed to familiarize students with the machines and equipment used in the apparel industry. It has the latest versions of sewing machines such as lock stitch, over lock, chain stitch feed off the arm, button holing and button attaching machines. In addition to sewing machines, it has cutting, pressing, fusing and finishing equipment as well as facilities to perform pattern construction.
The physical testing laboratory is designed with equipment to measure or assess the important physical properties and characteristics of textile fibers, yarns, fabrics and also to do the testing required to maintain the quality of garments. It is equipped with the tensile strength tester, tearing strength tester, abrasion tester, pilling box, water permeability and air permeability testers, crease recovery tester, GSM testing, stiffness tester, comb sorter, fibre bundle strength tester, micronaire tester, drapemeter, light fastness tester, lea strength tester, fully automated laundering machine with a tumble dryer etc.
This laboratory is designed to facilitate students to obtain hands-on experience in various aspects in fashion designing and product development. Fashion designing laboratory is designed to familiarize students with the key areas in the process of fashion designing which is practiced in the fashion and apparel industry. The laboratory is equipped with 25 workstations with fashion illustration equipment. It also has fashion draping activities with dress forms and sewing machines
CAD laboratory provides the facilities for students to practice the computer-aided designing in fashion and apparel product designing. It has up-to-date professional CAD software such as Lectra and Gerber. This laboratory is equipped with 10 workstations to provide students with hands-on experience in pattern drafting using the software.
The departmental research laboratory provides facilities for various research projects carried out by the staff as well as students. This laboratory is equipped with modern testing machines and equipment such as computer-controlled tensile strength tester, computer-controlled bursting strength tester, water-vapour permeability tester, flammability tester, digital crimp tester, digital warp-weft count tester, feather touch digital fabric thickness tester, latest Shirley stiffness tester etc.
