Objectives of the program

  • The employees, who are already in the apparel industry but without relevant basic theoretical and practical knowledge about the garment manufacturing process, will be able to gain a sound fundamental knowledge on raw material and production process.
  • Potential candidates get opportunities to enter into the job market in the area of Textile and Apparel industry.
  • The programme provides a path for candidates, who do not have the required entry qualification (GCE A/L three passes or equivalent qualifications) acceptable to the university, to enter the Diploma in / Bachelor of Industrial studies.

Teaching mode: Distance mode, limited lecture hours and laboratory work, comprehensive printed course materials for reading and self-studying

Language of study: Sinhala/English

Content of the program

Apparel Technology: You will study the garment manufacturing process including pattern making, seams and stitches, sewing machinery and other important activities of the garment manufacturing process.

Introducing Textile: You will study the basic raw materials such as fibre, yarn, fabrics and introducing fabric preparation and finishing processes.

Mathematics and Science for Textile and Apparel Technology: You will study the fundamentals of mathematics and science necessary for understanding the Textile and Apparel sector activities.

Laboratory Practice and Industrial Exposure: Practical work in our laboratory in the areas of fibre, yarn, woven fabric, knitted fabrics, operational breakdown, introduction to sewing machinery, seams and stitches, and Testing and quality control.
