This programme prepares a nurse to provide quality care in every aspect of the nursing practice with advanced knowledge and skills. The aims of this programme are: to provide advanced skills in holistic client-centred nursing care, leadership, teaching, research and management; to increase the understanding of the health care system of Sri Lanka; to create sensitivity to national and global nursing issues; to encourage active participation in shaping policies affecting the health care system of Sri Lanka; to increase overall work satisfaction; and to provide the necessary preparation for post-graduate studies.
The Bachelor of Nursing Degree programme consists of a minimum of four academic years to complete the Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6. Level 3 & Level 4 are exempted for registered nurses and Levels 5 and 6 are covered during a minimum of two academic years. The academic value of the courses for each level is 36 credits. As 72 credits at Level 3 and Level 4 are exempted for registered nurses, a student should complete 72 credits and obtain minimum Grade Point Value of 2.00 for the completion of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. With the recent revision of the Rules and Regulations, the programme widens its capacity to offer the degree to students who have completed their A/Ls in Science and Mathematics streams with 03 passes.
