Objective:

To provide training in policies, methods and applications of EIA

Programme delivery:

The course will include a series of lectures, practical sessions and student presentations. Lectures and practical sessions will be conducted by a group of experienced resource persons in this field. The program will be conducted at the Colombo regional centre (Nawala), OUSL, including three days of field components in a selected site.

This course is designed to provide a critical overview of the theory and practice of EIA. Following subject areas will be covered.

Purpose and aims of EIA, Policies and Legislation relevant to the EIA in Sri Lanka, EIA administration in Sri Lanka, Assessment processes, Scoping and preparation of terms of reference (TOR), Methods of EIA: Impact identification, Prediction and Evaluation, Ecological impact assessments, Social impact assessments, Physical impact assessments, Role of public participation, Stages that follow EIA (Monitoring), Understanding of the strengths and limitations of EIA
