| Welcome to the Department of Language Studies |
| The Department of Language Studies offers a range of academic programmes that can cater to the needs of diverse groups of students. It is committed to offering high quality programmes in the Distance Education mode utilizing innovative modes of teaching. In relation to English, the courses on offer are structured so that students can commence their studies with minimal levels of competence and proceed to a BA in English and English Language Teaching. The Department is also committed to serving the English language needs of all students registered for diverse undergraduate degrees in the University. In recent times we have also focused attention on enhancing learning opportunities for the two national languages of Sri Lanka: Sinhala and Tamil. In addition we also offer opportunities for learning foreign languages such as Korean. The Department of Language Studies thus attempts to offers a range of courses of relevance to the Sri Lankan context which provide flexible and affordable avenues of learning which can achieve professional, social and national goals. |
