ESU 4101- Principles of Education
This course is offered by the Department of Education and deals with Fundamental Principles of Education, Philosophy of Education and important aspects of education such as Socialization.
ESU 4201 – Psychology of Learning
This course is offered by the Department of Education and deals with issues such as growth factors in Child Development and Emotional Development.
LSU 4301 – Psycholinguistics & Sociolinguistics
This course deals with key theories, issues and notions in the field of psycholinguistics as well as sociolinguistics. The course deals with topics in psycholinguistics such as Child Language Acquisition and Language Pathology as well as topics such as code-switching, language variation, language and power, language policy and planning etc. in Sociolinguistics.
LSU 4302 – Methodology in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)
The course will focus on the developments of ELT methodology, its theories and practice. Students will be exposed to an examination of the various approaches and will explore the link between approach and classroom procedure. This course will also involve a teaching practicum which may require students to teach on weekdays and / or weekends.
LSU 4202 – Research Project
Students will be expected to submit a dissertation of about 10,000 words on a subject of their choice, in consultation with the staff of the Dept. of Language Studies.
LSU 4102 – Literature in the Second Language Classroom
This course will explore literature as a resource for the language teaching classroom as well as reviewing approaches to the teaching of literature written in English. The focus will be on using modern and postcolonial literature in the Sri Lankan classroom.
LSU 4104 - Computers and ELT ( adjunct course)
This involves skills related to the use of the Internet, search Engines, Power point and word processing, in relation to English Language Teaching.
