Professor G. Dayalatha Lekamge assumed duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Open University of Sri Lanka in March 2006 and she is continuing her second term as the Dean. She joined the University in July 1986 as a Probationary Lecturer, then was promoted to the post of Senior Lecturer in 1991 and became the Head of the Department of Education in 2003. Prof. Lekamge is the second Dean of the Faculty of Education.
She had her school education at Lakshapana Maha Vidyalaya and obtained the Bachelor of Education degree with a First Class (honors) from the University of Colombo in 1976. While working as an assistant teacher in a rural school she completed her M.Phil degree at the same University in 1983. After joining the Open University she proceeded to Open University, United Kingdom for her higher studies on a Commonwealth Academic Staff Scholarship in 1989 and earned a Ph.D in Distance Education and Teacher Education in 1993.
At present, she is working as the Editor-in-chief of the OUSL Journal and the Faculty Magazine “Addeksha”. She was the team leader of a number of research projects completed by the Faculty of Education, for the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka.
