MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

This programme is intended for teachers of English and teacher educators at the secondary as well as the tertiary level.

Aims of the MA in TESL

The aims of this programme are to develop

• knowledge and understanding of contemporary theories, approaches issues and practices in English Language Teaching (ELT).
• The ability to undertake and conduct research on ELT and disseminate research information.

Courses, Credit Rating & Duration

The programme consists of 42 credit units of course work and 18 credit units for the dissertation. A COURSE is a unit of study normally completed within a period of one year.

Courses are rated according to credit units. One credit unit is equivalent to 25 hours of study.

The MA in TESL takes a minimum of two years to complete. The MA should be completed within 7 years of first registration.
