The Foundation Courses, are offered at Level 1 & 2, for those who have not obtained three passes at the G.C.E. (A/L) examination or equivalent qualifications necessary for registration for the degree/diploma/advanced certificate programme at Level 3. Applications are called in March / April of each year. Aims and objectives These courses are suited for unqualified or partly qualified school leavers, employed persons and adults, who wish to come back into the academic main stream and obtain tertiary educational qualifications. Courses are of an academic standing equivalent to that of the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination. Passes in foundation courses are accepted by the Open university of Sri Lanka (OUSL) in lieu of G.C.E. (A/L) passes required for admission to OUSL programmes such as Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Nursing, Advanced Certificate in Laboratory Technology, Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Technology & Diploma in Management. Admission Requirements No formal educational qualifications are required of those seeking registration for Foundation Courses in Science. However, an educational attainment equivalent to passes in six subjects including Mathematics and Science at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination will be an advantage. Exemptions A student who has obtained one or more passes at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination or has other approved qualifications in Botany may seek specific exemptions from the Botany foundation course. Courses Level 1 - PSF 1305 / PSE 1305 -Botany I Medium of Instructions The media of instruction at Levels 1 & 2 are English, Sinhala and Tamil. |
