Stand-alone Courses
Instructions: Stand-alone courses under the Continuing Education Programme are offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka to enable those who wish to obtain more information & additional knowledge in a specific area of Botany, to do so without having to register for a complete programme of study. Students not registered for a regular programme are permitted to offer stand-alone courses up to an academic value not exceeding 1 credit per academic year.
Target
Botany courses would be beneficial to
- Those persons in scientific fields (including school teachers.) who wish to obtain more information & additional knowledge in a specific area of Botany.
- B.Sc. graduates who wish to update their knowledge and keep abreast with the applied topics outside the conventional areas of Botany. Graduate teachers could in particular, make use of this unique opportunity.
- School leavers, who wish to obtain advanced knowledge in specified areas of Botany for purpose of either obtaining middle or higher level employment in specific fields or proceeding for higher studies.
- Anyone, with a basic knowledge of Botany, who wish to obtain further knowledge in Botany at tertiary level without following a formal degree programme.
Applications Applications for stand-alone courses are invited in July / August after the closure of applications for the B.Sc. programme and registration will take place in October in the same year. Applicants are informed that they will be required to pay the full course fee before they are registered. It will not be possible for them to add or drop or change or postpone courses after registration. A firm decision must therefore be made by all applicants before they register for stand-alone courses. Requests for cancellations & changes will not be entertained thereafter under any circumstances.
