About the Course

This is one of the courses which will make up the Level 4 Chemistry component in the Bachelor of Science Degree Programme.

The academic value of this course is 1/3; which means that you have to spend about 150 hours of study. The course will run through semester 1 and semester 2.

Course outline

This course is intended to give the students in level 4, a thorough understanding and knowledge of some fundamental concepts in chemistry and some of their applications. Thus the course provides a further enhancement of the foundational knowledge required in understanding chemistry.

Structure of the course

This course consists of 6 study units.

Unit I- Understanding the basics of molecular spectroscopy

Unit II - Applications of energetics in chemistry

Unit III - Kinetics

Unit IV - Phase equilibria

Unit V – Importance, uses and relevance of surface phenomena in chemical
                sciences

Unit VI – Conductivity

Each unit consists of many study sessions. An introduction to each Unit is provided at the beginning which indicates what is expected of you after studying the Unit.
