Vice-Chancellor

Professor Upali Vidanapathirana assumed duties as the Vice Chancellor of the Open University (OUSL) in June 2009. He has more than 35 years of experience in teaching, research and management in the University system and in public sector organizations. In 1990 he joined the Open University of Sri Lanka where he served as a Senior Lecturer, Professor and also worked as the Head, Department of Social Studies and the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

He had his school education at Christ Church College Baddegama. He read for his BA (Hons) Degree in Economics at the University of Kelaniya and in 1976 he started his career as a university academic. His postgraduate qualifications include PG Diploma in Settlement Planning ( University of Colombo ), MSc (Asian Institute of Technology), MBA ( University of Sri Jayawardanepura ) and PhD in Economics ( Jawaharlal Nehru University , India ).
