Vice-Chancellor

Dr. Vijitha Nanayakkara assumed duties as the Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Sri Lanka in June 2012. He is the seventh Vice-Chancellor of the OUSL. He joined the University of Peradeniya as an Assistant Lecturer in 1981 and served as a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Department of Sociology.

He was graduated from the University of Peradeniya in 1980 and obtained his Masters Degree in Sociology from the same University. He completed his Ph.D in Sociology at Bangalore University, India in 2003. He has published widely in the field of Poverty Alleviation and Development Sociology. In addition to his academic career he holds a number of key positions in government and non-government organizations in Sri Lanka.
